Education, not Training
Doctoral student Neil Walsh shares his appreciation of the education offered in this department. He discusses how it is a return to the roots of Western education that emphasized character formation rather than skill training. He warns potential students to not come here if they are seeking a practical, worldly learning experience. He mentions Tobin Hart’s work in contemplative education and the return to the inner liberal arts.
An admin note: this department does not have an absence of training or skill-development opportunities. It just doesn’t emphasize them or prioritize them. They come along with the greater education, but are not available exclusively.
